Born in Nashville, TN, Rishara has been an artist since before she can remember. She am the third of six siblings all of which she have extremely close relationships with. She recieved an award for a drawing contest in 2002 through Mayor Bill Purcell’s Americans for the Arts Initiative. From there, Rishara attended Nashville School of the Arts for high school, concentrating in visual arts. In addition to art, she commited to outreach through community service projects including Second Harvest Food Bank, YCamp Mentoring, and St. Luke’s Community House. Upon graduation, she was awarded as the Excellence in the Arts Scholar through Metro Nashville Public Schools. Upon enrolling in Howard University, Rishara became a member of a freshman organization titled Ladies of the Quad Social Club where she continued to focus on service with an addition of sisterhood and scholarship. She then took a semester off during Spring 2013 and relocated back to her hometown. Rishara attended Tennessee State University Summer 2013-Summer 2014. There, she became a Girl Scouts Troop Leader where she served for a year with Hartman Park Community Center.

Upon returning to Howard as a Romare Bearden Scholar, Rishara became very involved on campus. She served as a mentor with STRIVE for College D.C. Organization and as a Team Leader for Alternative Spring Break in Newark, New Jersey. She also spent the Summer of 2015 participating in a design internship in Prague, CZ as a Gilman Scholar. Rishara is currently serving as an advisor for Ladies of The Quad Social Club, the Vice President of Howard University’s Tennessee Club, as well as the Graphics Director for Howard University’s student newspaper, The Hilltop.

Graduation is set for May 7, 2016 where Rishara will recieve a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, Rishara plans to work closely with Howard and/or D.C. to initiate a proposal for an African-centered educational arts program for youth that specializes in modern art forms (ie. engineering, graphic arts, animation, etc.) She is also considering graduate studies in and design career opportunities in California or and/or abroad in Africa.
